This is a dream project, a family farmhouse / villa overlooking a large working farm in the hills west of Los Angeles.  The site is on a hill overlooking the valley, with separate guest entrance and art studio, as well as plenty of upstairs bedrooms for the family.

The floor plan is based on a classic villa style, with symmetrical rooms for entertaining overlooking a central pool, connected by a main hall.  We carved away from the mass and kept simplifying the form, keeping the silhouette but creating more openness and allowing light to pour in.  The kitchen and utility rooms feed into a graywater system for irrigation, and the house has a solar roof.

The separate tower is not for grain but rather a multi-story creative space, with floors connected by a ramp.

The farm is home to many animals and includes a goat dairy.  Their goat-milk caramel is extraordinary.
